Prolotherapy

PROLOTHERAPY

Short for proliferative therapy, prolotherapy is a treatment modality that has been used in the field of regenerative medicine for over 80 years to treat joint laxity that results in joint diseases including arthritis.  It involves injecting an irritant solution, typically a highly concentrated dextrose (sugar substance that is present in our body) or other substances directly at injured or weak ligaments, tendons, and joints.  The process promotes an inflammatory process that causes release of growth factors and allows tissue regeneration for healing.  This results in stronger and stable soft tissues, thus minimizing shear forces that can lead to degenerative joint diseases.

Prolotherapy is used to treat musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, and joint instability to include:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Ligament sprains
  • Lower back pain
  • Tennis elbow

Although the effectiveness of this modality is still a subject of ongoing research, our approach to prolotherapy has successfully treated many patients to achieve joint stability and pain relief.  We combine the regenerative properties of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to further boost the body’s healing cascade.

Our providers at Texas Pain Alternative will be able to evaluate you and formulate a personalized treatment plan based on your injuries or conditions.  If you have been suffering from chronic pain, sports injuries, and joint instability, visit our clinic and find out how prolotherapy can provide you with pain relief.
